Brussels, 28 May 2019 – Kunstmaan | Accenture Interactive has built a new weather interface for The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) following the launch of Google Assistant in Belgium. Google Assistant allows people to get answers and complete over a million actions using just their voice. Now RMI weather updates are also accessible, for the first time, by voice command localized in Dutch and French for Belgians.
Kunstmaan | Accenture Interactive designed and built the conversational agent, powered by Google’s top-class Natural Language processor, right down to the questions and responses which help shape the unique user experience. In addition to requests for basic weather information based on location or time frame, people can ask Google Assistant simple questions like, “Do I need a jacket today?” or “Can I plan a barbecue next Saturday?” The device instantly responds with trusted weather information from Belgium’s RMI that is tailored to the question. Daily spoken updates, together with the on-demand weather forecasts, aim to transform and improve people’s daily interactions with RMI in a very personal and intuitive way.
“We are thrilled to bridge RMI with Google Assistant, both as a long-standing digital partner of RMI since 2008 and as an agency dedicated to creating purposeful brand experiences that make a difference and improve lives, says Roeland Gielen, Managing Director at Kunstmaan | Accenture Interactive. This interface is an outstanding example of our deep belief in human-centric design that leverages the skills of a diverse set of incredibly humble experts – from copywriters to UX strategists and designers - who do things for the betterment of people’s lives. Belgian weather may be unpredictable, but now everyone will be able to know the outside temperature, and whether to dress for rain or shine - in the easiest and most natural way. Working together with Google on this innovative interface for RMI has been a delight. We look forward to collaborating on more exciting projects that connect companies with Google Assistant to really transform everyday experiences for people in ways that matter.”
For RMI, a trusted source of local weather information since 1913, the interface represents continuing evolution in serving the Belgian population. "There is no doubt this brings a big opportunity for RMI in the whole customer experience. The Google Assistant is a way for users to have a conversation with Google, to get things done in their world through speech. There’s a shift happening from mobile-first to AI-first computing, with conversational assistance at the forefront. We’re incredibly excited that Belgian companies are using this opportunity to build their own Actions on Google, like RMI, in order to bring their services and expertise to all users of the Google Assistant,” says Thierry Geerts, Country Director at Google Belgium.
