Leuven, 3 March 2021 - In addition to groceries, Albert Heijn will be the place to shop for a new job in 2021. The retailer will be recruiting 500 new employees this year, starting its search in-store via a brand-new type of shelf situated among the usual shelves: the Vacancy shelf.
Alongside the fruit and vegetable shelf, the drinks shelf, the dry food shelf and the magazine shelf, Albert Heijn’s new Vacancy shelf will display all available job vacancies – each wrapped as if it were a real product. With plans for 10 new shops in the pipeline, the retailer expects its need for specific roles – such as Fresh Department Manager, Store Leader, and ‘Stacking Champion’ – to increase over the course of the year. Albert Heijn seeks an additional 500 employees to meet this new demand.
“We’re not searching too far afield for those new additions,” says Els Merlier, Director Marketing & Communications Ahold Belgium. “Together with Kunstmaan | Accenture Interactive, we figure that our best clients might also be our best employees.”
“As a ‘love-brand’, it is not a crazy idea to look for new staff among your own loyal and local fanbase”, agrees Dominique Poncin, Strategic Director Kunstmaan | Accenture Interactive. “With this unique initiative, Albert Heijn is making the search for a new job in your area easier and more fun. And we at Kunstmaan | Accenture Interactive are happy to help with that.”
Every job will be uniquely packaged; candidates can look on-pack to discover more information on the specific job role, the core ‘ingredients’ or requirements that candidates must meet, as well as the recipe for success on how to receive an offer.
The Vacancy shelf will appear soon in no fewer than five Albert Heijn branches. The jobs will also be made available for online shopping on Albert Heijn’s website, and social media will further spread the campaign.
